The Croatian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday changed its recommendation for travel to Tunisia due to the deteriorated security situation in the country, warning about an increased risk, and formed a task force to follow developments and help any Croatian citizens in Tunisia if necessary.
The ministry warned about an increased risk of travelling to Tunisia due to the demonstrations and protests which began throughout the country in mid-December, including clashes with security forces, and pointed out that the army was deployed in downtown Tunis on January 12 in order to maintain order and security.
The ministry's recommendation to Croatian citizens who choose to travel to Tunisia nonetheless is to closely follow security and political developments in the country and the entire region, to be careful and to avoid big gatherings and protests.
The task force was established at Foreign Minister Gordan Jandrokovic's orders. It is headed by Vinko Ljubicic, head of the Consular Affairs Department, who is in contact with the Croatian Embassy to Morocco. The task force is also in contact with travel agencies organising trips to Tunisia.
