A majority of the Romanians disapproves of the military intervention in Libya and says Romania should have a reserved attitude regarding this issue, reveals a survey conducted by the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy (IRES).

It shows that 68 percent of the respondents do not agree with the military campaign in Libya, while 28 percent approve of it and 4 percent gave no answer.
Furthermore, 90 percent of the polled have heard of the military intervention in Libya and most of them - 51 percent - believe it has been prompted by the control over the Libyan oil reserves, while 42 percent say the reason for the campaign is to protect the civilians from the Libyan army attacks.
The survey reveals that 66 percent of the polled think Romania should abstain when it comes to the issue of the military intervention in Libya, while 20 percent say Romania should back this campaign and 11 percent think Bucharest should declare against it.
As much as 84 percent of the surveyed agree with the assertion that "President Traian Basescu was correct to say that 'a military intervention in Libya is risky'' and 73 percent believe Germany was right to abstain from voting in the U.N. Security Council and from taking part in the military campaign.
The IRES survey was conducted on March 21 on a representative sample of 1,118 respondents, with an error margin of plus/minus 2.9 percent.
