Chief of the European Parliament's Southeast European delegation Eduard Kukan believes that boycott of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and the latest report of ICTY Chief Prosecutor Brammertz on Serbia's cooperation with the ICTY are negative messages that Serbia has sent to Brussels.
Serbia's decision to boycott this year's Nobel Peace Prize ceremony for Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo is a very bad signal that Belgrade has sent to Brussels.
Serbia, as an EU hopeful, has to know that EU's reaction to such a decision will be negative, Kukan stated for radio Deutsche Welle. Apart from criticizing the boycott of the Nobel award ceremony, the latest report of Brammertz cannot bring Belgrade any positive mark from the EU, Kukan believes.
Brammertz's latest report does not confirm Serbia's full cooperation wit the ICTY. Serbia has gained positive momentum on its EU path and if it wants to continue the trend, it will have to solve the issue of the ICTY once and for all. Brammertz's latest report is another piece of information that fuels suspicion whether Serbia is making enough effort, Kukan said.
