Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic assessed Monday that the statement of Head of EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert that Serbia might not receive the EU candidate status in 2011, is
only a warning that there are other scenarios.
"Degert only warned that there is more than one option, as only the positive one has been mentioned lately. If anything annoys the European Commission and the EU, it is talking about something in advance like it is certain," Dacic told the journalists in Brussels.
He reiterated that EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele will arrive in Belgrade soon, and that the Serbian officials will discuss with him the problems they are facing. "I think that none of these problems are unsolvable.
The question is how we will get organized as a country, will we be serious or will we allow ourselves to miss a great opportunity to obtain the EC's positive opinion by the end of the year," Dacic stressed.
He added that it is "a historic chance" and that "all of us together should be committed to achieving that goal." I hope we will seize this opportunity, because if we miss it, it is questionable when Serbia will have a similar one again, Dacic pointed out.
