Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic stated at today’s session of the Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of the Transitional Trade Agreement (TTA) in Brussels that the agreement has been successfully implemented for 12 months.

Djelic, who headed a Serbian delegation to the session, said that he presented the Committee members with a proposed solution for the issue of excise tax on oil derivatives, which implies reinstating last year’s system, where there was no difference between domestic and foreign producers.

The European Commission acknowledged the proposal and its official response will be announced over the following several weeks. I expect this issue to be solved, the Deputy Prime Minister noted.

As a good example of cooperation with the EU, he recalled the issue of the temporary ban on wheat export, which was resolved in consultation with the Union.

Djelic said they agreed to launch talks in September which may ensure Serbia higher export quotas for sugar and some other products for Serbia.

The Serbian delegation submitted a report on the implementation of the action plan for acquiring candidate status, which covers the period from the beginning of the year until now, Djelic said adding that 70% of the recommendations envisaged for this period have been fully or partially fulfilled.

The greatest task is still ahead of Serbia and we must bolster up our independent institutions and pass complex laws, such as the law on financing political parties, restitution and public property, he concluded.
