Markovic to open roundtable discussion on draft law on referendum, popular initiative

Minister of Human and Minority Rights, Public Administration and Local Self-Government Milan Markovic will open a roundtable discussion “Draft law on referendum and popular initiative” on 1 June, at 10.00, at the Sava Centre, hall 2/0, Milentija Popovica 9.

The gathering will be addressed by Head of the Council of Europe Mission to Serbia Antje Rothemund, Acting Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Thomas Moore, Swiss Ambassador Erwin Hofer and Professor Bogoljub Milosavljevic, who will present the working version of the text.
The meeting will be attended by representatives of parliamentary parties, Serbian government ministries, university professors, representatives of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities, NGOs in Serbia and the members of the working group for drafting the text of the law.
The existing Law on the referendum and popular initiative was adopted in 1994, but basically it does not provide adequate popular initiative and referendum.
