International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz said on May 31 that he would make his satisfaction known in an oral report to the U.N. Security Council on Serbia's arrest
and extradition of Ratko Mladic to the ICTY.
Brammertz told Serbian state TV that when the day came to deliver the report, June 6, "I will insist on my extreme satisfaction because Serbia has met an important international commitment," but added that he would also mention "numerous shortcomings."
"Obviously, this is the result of excellent work by police, intelligence agencies and the Action Team and National Council for Cooperation with the ICTY," the prosecutor said.
Brammertz said that Mladic's extradition was an important day for international justice as well as the victims who had long awaited the day when Mladic would end up in jail in The Hague.
When asked about what first passed through his mind when he learned of Mladic's arrest, Brammertz said that he thought about the victims and also about what Mladic's arrest meant for Serbia and regional reconciliation.
