Number of places hit with lack in power supply is decreasing in central Russia, where works on repair of the broken power lines are being done, and the Russian officials warn that further drop in temperature is expected during the week.
In Moscow region around 310.000 people and 14 hospitals were cut off from power supply because of power transmission line wire breaks. According to the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations almost 72.000 people are still without electricity.
Domodedovo airport that was closed due to blackout early Monday, about 100 flights were cancelled, about 50 flights on Sheremetyevo airport and 30 long-distance trains are delayed.
Snowstorm from SE USA going north
Snowstorm that brought unusually big snow-drifts for Christmas in Southeast parts of United States is moving north toward the East American coast, and 25 centimeters of snow is expected in Washington, New York and New England.
Airliners have cancelled hundreds of flights on the northern-east corridor and announced more cancellations in anticipation of the storm, Associated Press reported.
By early Sunday, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina had also declared states of emergency.
