Tayeb Ould Sidi Ali was one of the AQIM leaders who topped the wanted list. In February, his insurgents attempted life of Mauritanian president Mohamed ould Abdel Azis and attacked the French embassy in Mauritania.
In Mauritania the national forces killed a top official of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) during an air raid into Malian territory.
