Crossing taxes for cars coming from Bulgaria to Romania via the Danube bridge that connects the Bulgarian city of Rousse and the Romanian city Giurgiu will be lowered as of June 1 2011 following a Government decision in March, BNT (Bulgarian National Television) reported on June 1 2011.

The crossing tax at the Danube bridge for cars coming from Bulgaria will be reduced to four leva (two euro).

There is no change of tax for incoming cars from Romania, 12 leva (six euro).

Every day, about 900 cars travel to Romania across the bridge, so reducing the tax could cut customs' income by two million leva a year. However, Bulgarian customs at Rousse expect traffic to increase once the impact of lower taxes is felt
