Budget airline Air Berlin has cancelled some 70 flights that were supposed to land this summer season on Rijeka airport located on Krk island.

Air Berlin cancelled all flights from Dusseldorf and cut down on the number of planes coming from Cologne and Stuttgart due to low booking numbers. It also suspended flights from Munster from 20 August to 1 September.

This is likely to reduce the number of expected passengers to Krk by 10,000, daily Slobodna Dalmacija writes.

The airport hopes to host some 90,000 visitors this year, an increase of 30,000 over the last. The biggest boost is expect from Ryanair flying from London and Stockholm.

The airport located on island Krk is expected to finish the year with some 1.4 million Euros of debt, daily writes.
