After 20 years of entry into force of the Law on privatization of companies, on August 1991, Electromagnetica can be found on the list of successful privatizations, one of the best known companies in Romania, recognized especially before December '89 for its famous classic disc telephones.

During the eight decades of activity, the company's product portfolio has seen significant changes, so that its activity segments expanded from business in electricity or hydro power plants field to that of auto subassembly parts for well known manufacturers as Alfa Romeo, Ford or Dacia.
Founded in 1930, "Standard Electrica Romana", as it was then called, an economic giant, literally, was a producer of telephone devices and exchanges. Eighteen years later, the company's product portfolio was to be completed, the list also including electricity meters and electromagnetic meters, all amid a growing demand for products "Made in Romania" coming especially from foreign markets.
In 1968, the plant name changed into Electromagnetica, kept until now. Meanwhile, the company has continued to expand its scope to automation equipment for rail transport, rectifiers, automatic telephone exchanges.
In 1990, Electromagnetica changed into a share company and since 1997 the company's shares are traded on Rasdaq.
Currently, employees own a stake of over 31 percent in Electromagnetica, this company being one of the few examples of success following its acquisition by the company employees.
The company has also got the licence to supply electricity and to produce electricity from renewable sources, and in 2008 it launched an investment program in hydro power plants, to upgrade and expand production capacities.
In parallel with the programs in its own portfolio, Electromagnetica produces automotive subassemblies for customers as Ford, Alfa Romeo, Dacia Renault.
Electromagnetica recorded in the first half of 2011 a net turnover of about 247 million lei (about 58.2 million euros), up 6.18 percent over the same period of the previous year.
