International police cooperation is a key to successful response to cyber crime, officials stated on Tuesday during a conference of regional police chiefs on computer crime in Budva.
Opening the meeting, Montenegrin Prime Minister Igor Luksic said that cyber crime constitutes a threat to the modern society, especially having in mind the fact that modern-day terrorism uses this mode of crime as its logistic.
The key to a successful response to such phenomena lies in cooperation on all levels, both multilateral and bilateral, especially in the part that refers to cooperation between police organisations in regional and EU countries, he underscored.
President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police Walter McNeil said that police fight against crime cannot be limited to the territory of a single country because crime knows no borders.
Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble pointed out that expansion of police cooperation is important for enhancement of the fight against all forms of crime.
Europol Director Rob Wainwright said that cyber crime is a widespread phenomenon because a great number of citizens are using the internet.
The conference on cyber crime in Budva was organised by Montenegrin Police Department, International Association of Chiefs of Police and SEPCA to mark the association's tenth anniversary.
Serbia's Chief of Police Milorad Veljovic said earlier on Tuesday that Serbia is a regional leader in fighting cyber crime.
He said the Serbian police cooperated with the FBI and some European police forces on several operations against cyber crime.
