EUR 300 million for refugees, EU major donor

Around EUR 300 million were raised at the donor conference in Sarajevo on Tuesday, whić makes up 60 percent of the funds needed for providing accommodation to the most vulnerable refugees in Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH), Montenegro, Croatia and Serbia.

The EU and the U.S. promised that they would ensure another EUR 200 million necessary for a regional programme that would provide housing for 27.000 refugee families, BiH Minister for Human Rights and Refugees Damir Ljubic stated during the final news conference.
The greatest amount of financial assistance, some EUR 230 million, was provided by the EU via IPA funds.
The U.S. government will allocate USD 10 million or around EUR 7.600.000 in 2012, but it announced that the funds would be set aside in the years to come as well.
The governments of Italy, Norway, Germany and Switzerland will allocate EUR 5 million each, Denmark set aside EUR 1,3 million and Turkey will provide EUR 1 million.
Luxembourg contributed by EUR 500.000, and Cyprus, the Czech Republic and Romania would donate EUR 50.000 eać, while Hungary would provide EUR 30.000.
The countries in the region, including BiH, Montenegro, Croatia and Serbia, should allocate EUR 83 million, of whić Serbia alone should provide EUR 33 million.
When the programme has been fully realised, which should happen within the next five years, the housing issue should be resolved for a total of 74,000 people in Serbia, BiH, Croatia and Montenegro.
