Minister for Kosovo and Metohija Goran Bogdanovic stated that all disputable issues, solutions for the preservation of the Serb community and improvement of living conditions, as well as a number of other problems, including the status which is a central issue for Serbia, should be discussed with the Kosovo Albanians.

Responding to a question by Politika's journalist on what the dialogue that is mentioned in the resolution on Kosovo and Metohija implies, Bogdanovic said that those who had recognized the unilaterally declared independence it probably means discussing technical issues.

"The resolution is only one step towards opening a dialogue that would lead to finding a compromising solution, with the preservation of the Serb community in the province and Serbia's national and state interests," the minister said in an interview published by Politika.

When asked what kind of a dialogue is acceptable to Serbia, Bogdanovic replied that enabling a status dialogue is an essential reason and prerequisite for Serbia's active participation in the talks, but that it is also important that everyday life, improvement of living conditions and full protection of the rights of the Kosovo Serbs are the topics of the talks.

He believes that it is not possible to discuss technical issues and set the status aside, and that this also became evident during the talks at the time of Martti Ahtisaari and the so-called troika.

"Different topics, from decentralization, through cultural heritage, to human rights, may be discussed but you will always come across the question of status at some point, as a prerequisite for reaching a solution," said Bogdanovic.

He said that it would be desirable to have someone else join the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, but that such mediation must not turn into an arbitration or limitation of the talks, because with such an approach the dialogue would the end before it had started.
