Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Sasa Dragin and President of the Executive Council of Vojvodina Bojan Pajtic opened today in Sremski Karlovci new offices of the Sector for rural development.

Dragin explained that this sector of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management has been moved from Belgrade to Sremski Karlovci and underlined that great attention is being paid to decentralisation of state institutions.

After opening the administration for agriculture payments in Sabac and setting up more than 80 local funds for development of agriculture, one more important service has been moved to the interior of the country, the Minister underlined.

He added that the Sector for rural development will have a crucial role in applying for IPA funds of the EU.

Pajtic said that moving one of the most important development institutions in Sremski Karlovci shows the respect for history and tradition, as well as strong commitment to decentralisation of Serbia.

The event in Sremski Karlovci was attended by the ambassadors of Germany, Switzerland and Denmark in Serbia Wolfram Maas, Erwin Hofer and Mette Kjuel Nielsen.

These countries helped this project through their agencies and offered significant assistance to Serbia’s agriculture and regional development.
