This year's wheat price at the start of the harvest is expected to be at RSD 17-20 for 1 kg, but without the value added tax (VAT), agricultural experts stated Thursday.
Head of the Novi Sad produce market Zarko Galetin said that large buyers had not come out with a price yet, while the producers had already stated their wishes.
"The harvest is just around the corner, so the market is stirring, which also goes for last year's wheat," Galetin told reporters during an agricultural conference.
"The price of wheat should not be expected to rise above RSD 20 per 1 kg during the harvest itself," he noted, adding that it could go up after the harvest.
It is unlikely the farmers are going to get their wishes and sell the wheat for RSD 20 or more during the harvest, head of the Wheat of Serbia association Vukosav Sakovic remarked.
"We can realistically expect the wheat price to be at around RSD 17-18 per 1 kg during the harvest, without the VAT, which is little for some, but a lot for those who are going to be buying," Sakovic pointed out.
