The number of people killed in stampede following the three-day water festival which marks the end of rain season in Cambodia reached 375, and 755 more were injured.
According to the Cambodian PM Hun Sen, the incident is “the greatest tragedy in last 31 years, since the fall of Red Khmer Regime,” the AP Agency reported.
Stamped started after a few people collapsed during a concert in a small island in river Tonle Sap that flows through the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh.
The state television earlier reported that according to a hospital-related source 278 people died, among which 240 were women.
Many people were drowned in the river after they jumped from the bridge.
During the cruel rule of ultra-leftist Red Khmers in the 70’s, around 1,700,000 Cambodians were killed.
