Nearly month-long flooding in Kosinj Valley in Croatia's central region of Lika had caused 11 million kuna (1,514,000 Euros) of damage to the area, inspectors reported yesterday.

Nearly month-long flooding in Kosinj Valley in Croatia's central region of Lika had caused 11 million kuna (1,514,000 Euros) of damage to the area, inspectors reported yesterday.

Heavy rains and melting snow on Velebit mountain caused the Lika River to flood in December and January. The residents of Kosinj, where more than 150 homes were inundated, still have difficulty in accessing potable water.

Many of the area’s roads remain in bad condition, the Croatian daily 24 Sata has reported. Perusic municipality, to which Kosinj belongs, has budgeted 300,000 kuna (41,000 Euros) for clean-up and repair operations at a time when it is under financial strain, the daily added.
