BiH Central Bank registers 2.300 counterfeit banknotes

The Central Bank appeals to citizens that if they suspect that they have been given a counterfeit banknote or coin, they can hand it over to the police, with information when and where they received it, in case they know that.

From January through June, the BiH Central Bank registered 2.300 counterfeit banknotes and coins.

The Bank registered 1,092 counterfeit KM banknotes, 958 KM coins, 185 Euro banknotes and 66 banknotes of other currencies.

The KM 50 note is the most often counterfeited denomination of BiH currency (515 pieces registered), as well as KM 20 denomination (421 pieces). The most counterfeited coin is KM 1 denomination (555 pieces), then comes KM 5 denomination (295 pieces), and KM 2 denomination (108 pieces).

As for the Euro banknotes, the most frequently counterfeited denomination is EURO 100 (105 pieces registered). Of 66 counterfeit banknotes of other currencies, 65 are in denomination of USD 100.

According to the Central Bank, the number of counterfeit banknotes and coins decreased by 55 percent in comparison with the same period of 2009.
