The water has reached the thresholds of some holiday homes on Zeleni Otok Green near the village of Batina (Osijek-Baranja County),something which has not been seen in the last 90 years.
The climate changes that brought spring temperatures to Croatia in January have also caused melted snow from central Europe to flow into the Danube.
The Danube near Batina has topped 500 centimetres and continues to grow at a rate of 3 centimetres per hour, the daily Jutarnji List writes. The river is expected to stop rising before it reaches 750 centimeters, the point at which emergency flood measures are put into place.
The last time the Danube's waters were at this leel in January was back in the 1920s. The authorities are not expecting any great problems but are ready to intervene if needed, the daily writes.
