Romania's trade deficit widens by EUR 437.8 ml

Romania's FOB/CIF trade deficit stood at RON 4.211 billion (970.2 million euros) over January - February 2012, up by approximately RON 1.56 billion (347.8 million euros) from the same period of 2011, according to a Monday release of the National Statistics Institute (INS) to Agerpres.

Romania's FOB exports over January 1 - February 29, 2012 amounted to RON 30.305 billion (6.98 billion euros), while CIF imports stood at RON 34.516 billion (7.950 billion euros). Compared with the first two months of 2011, exports were up 2.5 percent when stated in RON and 0.6 percent when stated in euros, while imports increased by 7.2 percent when stated in RON and 5.1 percent when stated in euros.
Romania's intra-community exchanges of goods were worth RON 22.358 billion (roughly 5.144 billion euros) in terms of sales and RON 25.499 billion (5.866 billion euros) in terms of purchases, making up 73.8 percent of Romania's total exports and 73.9 percent of Romania's total imports.
According to preliminary estimates by the National Statistics Institute, the FOB-CIF trade deficit was RON 2.225 billion (511.7 million euros) in February 2012, by RON 476.6 million (100.6 million euros) higher than the figure registered in February 2011.
The main commodity groups in the structure of Romania's foreign trade were transport machinery and equipment (41.7 percent of exports and 34.2 percent of imports, respectively) and manufactured goods (35.2 percent of exports and 30 percent of imports, respectively).
