Serbian Patriarch Irinej said the violence exerted by Kosovo Albanians against Serbs six years ago was the day of the terrible suffering of Serbs in Kosmet and stressed Serbs could never renounce Kosmet.

We pray to God that He remember all the innocent victims of that horrible event, the Patriarch said after a liturgy and service held in the Belgrade Orthodox Cathedral on the occasion of the sixth year after Kosovo Albanian violence against Serbs, their property, cultural monuments and sanctities of the Serbian Orthodox Church, exerted on March 17 and 18, 2004.

Kosovo has always been ours, said Irinej, pointing to the centuries-long tradition of the Serbs in the southern Serbian province and to the sanctities and tombs, which are testimonies the Serbs cannot renounce.

He emphasized that Serb sanctities in Kosmet had been levelled to the ground, but that time would come for them to be restored.

The liturgy was attended by Minister of Religion Bogoljub Šijaković and several state officials and many people
