On Oct. 2, Serbian President and Democratic Party leader Boris Tadic said that he supported holding expert talks between Belgrade and Pristina on all key issues that affected life in Kosovo, so that they could later receive political confirmation.

At a party steering committee meeting in Svilajnac, Tadic said that he could not specify the exact issues that needed to be discussed, as the other side needed to be acknowledged too.

The Serbian president added that there was no power greater than the power of compromise, and that only compromise would produce a lasting solution to this historical problem.

Tadic underscored that national consensus was needed to solve the Kosovo issue, "or at least a consensus among the dominant political forces," as this was the only way to prevent conflicts in the country and region, as well as political instability.
