Bolivian citizen, who tried to smuggle packages of cocaine in her own insides into Serbia, is in Military-Medical Academy in Belgrade, and further investigation will be carried out by public prosecutor and authorised investigator, Customs Management stated on Wednesday at the press conference.

“Nikola Tesla” Airport Custody Head Zeljko Konjikusic said Bolivian woman (30) until now passed 102 packages of cocaine, covered with plastic mass, and that she admitted to have swallowed 115 packages, around 10 grams each.

Konjikusic added she was caught on Belgrade airport based on an international information exchange, after she arrived from Zurich, and that it was suspicious she allegedly planned to stay in a hotel in Belgrade five days, and she had little luggage.

The date “Nikola Tesla” Custom Service received from SECI centre in Bucharest indicated the specific person is to be checked in detail upon her arrival to Belgrade. She was caught after she arrived from Santa Cruise, via Sao Paolo and Zurich.

“Among her stuff were pills for diarrhoea, usually used by the cocaine packages swallowers,” he said, adding that communication with her was difficult from the start, as she speaks only Spanish, and they had to hire an official interpreter.

According to him, the Bolivian woman was quite clam at the beginning, did not show any signs of stress, only to become increasingly anxious after her x-ray examination.

Konjikusic also said there were, except this one, two more cases of cocaine smuggling from Dominican Republic – one in April, when three kilos of cocaine were discovered in a guitar, and the other one in July, when half a kilo of cocaine was found in bags in the luggage.

Aleksandar Vulovic, Section for application of customs regulations’ Director Assistant, said that Serbian Airport Customs prevented smuggling of 200 kilos of various narcotics since the beginning of this year.

He added that customs intelligence exchange was very useful in the case of the Bolivian woman and that he expected further development of security and protective role of Customs Service. He also pointed out that Customs Management was commended in the previous two reports of European Commission.
