Leader of the United Regions of Serbia (URS) Mladjan Dinkic said Wednesday that the draft law on public property was bad and did not envisage actually returning property to local self-governments.

Leader of the United Regions of Serbia (URS) Mladjan Dinkic said Wednesday that the draft law on public property was bad and did not envisage actually returning property to local self-governments.

Dinkic told a press conference in the Serbian parliament premises that he hoped that a law would be adopted eventually that would actually return property to cities and municipalities, since it was one of the the European Commission's conditions that Serbia must meet in order to obtain a positive opinion on the acquisition of the EU membership candidacy status.

“The point is that instead of really returning property to local self-governments, they are trying to dodge the restitution in various ways,” Dinkic underlined.

He said it was also dubious that the draft document envisages the Republic of Serbia Property Directorate retaining its functions and even having some functions hidden.
