The IMF mission will arrive on Wednesday in Belgrade, where until May 27, they will talk with Serbian officials about current macroeconomic developments in Serbia and the conclusion of a new standby arrangement.

The earlier agreement of Serbia and the IMF expired on April 15, and of the approved loan of around three billion euros, Serbia withdrew 1.5 billion euros.

The Serbian Government has agreed to negotiate on concluding a new arrangement with the IMF as a precautionary measure, meaning that the IMF loan will not be negotiated, but, certain help will be available to Serbia in the event of unforeseen financial difficulties.

An agreement on a new arrangement of Serbia and the IMF is expected to be reached by autumn.

The IMF Mission for Serbia will be led by Albert Jaeger who, before coming to Belgrade, warned that the fiscal responsibility is a way for Serbia to once again become a prosperous country and that it would be good if the major political parties publicly commit themselves to respect fiscal rules.
