The construction works on Corridor 10 near the Vrbas junction have been unblocked following a police intervention early Wednesday, President of the Independent Union of Road Workers of Serbia Sonja Vukanovic told Tanjug.

The construction works on Corridor 10 near the Vrbas junction have been unblocked following a police intervention early Wednesday, President of the Independent Union of Road Workers of Serbia Sonja Vukanovic told Tanjug.

According to Vukanovic, the police dispersed Nibens Group road workers around 3 a.m. The police then blocked the headquarters of all five road construction companies of the Nibens Group - Backaput, Beograd, Kragujevac, Nis and Vranje, so that the workers cannot either enter or leave the companies with machinery, she added.

“We cannot join the EU in this way, we will request dismissal of Minister of Infrastructure Milutin Mrkonjic,“ Vukanovic said.

The Independent Union of Road Workers announced that the workes of all five road construction companies of the Nibens Group will block the Horgos border crossing, demanding the payoff of due incomes.

The infrastructure minister stated for Tanjug Tuesday evening that the banks to which the Nibens Group owes money have announced that they will secure the funds in the next two days for the due incomes of road workers who went on strike, and called on them to stop the blockage.

Mrkonjic added that the banks, to which the Nibens Group owes around EUR 130 million, have pledged to unblock the accounts of all five road construction companies of the Nibens Group and secure the funds which will ensure the resumption of work and payoff of due incomes.
