Djelic said that if Serbia does not get a date in December, certain EU members could set a new list of preconditions for the beginning of the accession talks.
Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic stated that it is crucial to have the EU members set the date for the beginning of the EU accession talks in December, since on the contrary Serbia will face new preconditions.
Djelic said that if Serbia does not get a date in December, certain EU members could set a new list of preconditions for the beginning of the accession talks.
It is very important to avoid the situation such as the one of Macedonia which has the candidate status since December 2005 and no date for the beginning of the talks, Djelic underlined.
He added that just like in the previous years it has happened once again that whenever positive developments are expected, someone spoils them for Serbia.
"We saw in July that Pristina is among them and there are also others who ask from Serbia things that they know very well that it cannot offer, particularly in respect of Kosovo," Djelic said, stressing that Serbia will not accept such preconditions in exchange for the date of the accession talks.
"Serbia's good characteristic is that it is a predictable country, which promotes dialogue and peace and at the same time explicitly states the red lines that it will not cross," Djelic underlined.
"It is true that we will have to resolve the status of Kosovo before joining the EU, but this solution cannot be a unilateral proclamation of independence,".
