The government of Montenegro has prepared a program, called “economic citizenship”. According to this program foreigners, who invest over EUR 500 000 in the national economy, will be able to receive Montenegrin citizenship.

The goal is foreign businessmen to be encouraged to settle in the country, to implement new technologies and know-how and also to employ people.

Former PM of Thailand in exile Thaksin Shinawatra, wanted by the justice of his own country, has already received Montenegrin citizenship due to his engagement to invest in hotel business along the Adriatic coastline.

Local media say that both former chief of Formula 1 Eddie Jordan and Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich have also shown interest in receiving Montenegrin citizenship.
