President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias on Sunday called on the countryβs political forces to "converge" towards a common political goal, speaking from the northeast border city of Didymoticho, where he was declared an honorary citizen during a special event.
President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias on Sunday called on the countryβs political forces to "converge" towards a common political goal, speaking from the northeast border city of Didymoticho, where he was declared an honorary citizen during a special event.
"We are in the midst of a very difficult course. Our problem is the guaranteeing of social peace and cohesion. There is a solution, and it's political; we must all lift ourselves above the petty and devote ourselves to the significant (aims)," he said.
Following the ceremony, the Greek president toured the Byzantine-era walls and fortress in the municipality, before attending a reception in his honor hosted by local office-holders at the city hall.
