Minister of Telecommunication and Information Society Jasna Matic and US Ambassador to Serbia Mary Warlick opened a new office of the International Academic Centre in Belgrade yesterday.

Matic said that the International Academic Centre was established in 2004, to advise students who want to continue their studies in the United States, preparing them for tests and examinations necessary for the admission to universities in the United States.

She said the centre will from 26 January expand its services by opening the first Prometric academic and professional testing centre in Serbia.

The Minister pointed out that education is the key to competitiveness and prosperity of each country and especially Serbia, that has passed through a difficult period.

Education for today's generation should be such as to enable young people to find their place in the global labour market and to compete with peers from around the world, said Matic.

Warlick pointed to the fact that the centre works to improve the mutual understanding between Serbia and the United States, adding that last year over 1,000 Serbian students attended universities in the United States.
