The proposed amendments to the law on government, which were sent to the parliament on Monday, allow the prime minister to also act as one of the ministers.

The National Assembly will discuss the bill on Tuesday.

Another one of the changes states that if a minister is dismissed by the prime minister, he cannot perform his duties while waiting for the parliament to take a stand regarding the prime minister's decision. Instead, he will immediately be replaced by another member of the government, whom the prime minister chooses.

Members of the government, state secretaries and heads of government organizations all have to support government views in their public appearances.

The amendments are explained by the need to ensure greater political unity within the government and better coordination.

The new law will enter into force the day it is published in the Official Gazette.

The parliament has also received a bill on ministries, which will cut the number of ministries down to 17.
