The Serbian government does not wish to turn its backs on problems of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija and it wants to take an active part in activities aimed at finding solutions as soon and as efficiently as possible, Head of the Serbian government Office for Media Relations Milivoje Mihajlovic stated late on Saturday.

In an interview for the Zvecan-based television Most, Mihajlovic said that Serbia will not recognise independent Kosovo, either implicitly or explicitly.

He said that he understands those who believe that Serbia is slowly entering a process of recognition or deference, and denied the veracity of such speculations.

What Serbia wants is to have problems solved one by one, for the Kosovo knot to be undone and for the knot's strings to be unwound one by one, Mihajlovic said and added that the dialogue will be fruitful although it will not be either short or easy.

First results, which were achieved in the previous rounds, represent a considerable progress in the freedom of movement for people in Kosovo-Metohija, Mihajlovic said.

He added that Serbs have negative experiences and that Pristina keeps announcing northern Kosovo would be integrated into 'a self-proclaimed independent Kosovo,' and he underscored that Albanians are wrong and that whenever they 'aim for the north, they strike themselves.'

Mihajlovic expressed belief that more and more citizens would put KS licence plates, issued by UNMIK, on their vehicles since it would ensure their greater freedom of movement, communication and crime control.

We expect the sixth round of talks to open topics that would contribute to a better life of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, both the south and to the north of the Ibar River, the official said.
