The Serbian parliament should discuss the draft laws on restitution and public property at an extraordinary sitting in September, since the adoption of these documents constitutes one of the conditions for EU membership, Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic announced on Saturday.

September will be the month of plenary sessions and we will deal primarily with laws defined in the European agenda which are important for all citizens whose needs ought to be met by high-quality legislations in the areas of restitution and public property, Djukic-Dejanovic told Tanjug and added that competent bodies agreed that these two laws need to be discussed simultaneously.

She announced that in the course of July, the parliament would complete its extraordinary sitting on amendments to the Law on Local Elections and report on the work done by Serbian ombudsman, after which another sitting would be staged with regard to legislations in the energy sector.

The bill on energy is important because it is included in the European agenda, Djukic-Dejanovic said.

She noted that after these two extraordinary sittings end, MPs will have a break since there will be no plenary meetings in August, although committees and parliamentary diplomats would conduct certain activities.
