Minister of Culture, Media and Information Society Predrag Markovic and Director-General of public postal company PTT Srbija Goran Ciric visited today the construction site of the Main postal centre “Belgrade“ in Zemun which will span 28,000 square metres.
Ciric announced improvement and reconstruction works on the main postal centres in Novi Sad that will start soon and where 2,200 square metres will be reconstructed and new 2,300 will be built and in Nis, where almost 4,800 square metres will be improved.
He added that these three postal centres will be completely finished by March 2012.
Markovic recalled that the state began this important work on 24 December last year, when Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic laid a corner stone, and Patriarch Irinej consecrated the site.
Until now all deadlines have been met without additional costs and the first phase has been completed, during which rough construction works have been done, the Minister underlined.
This centre will give our citizens a modern, integrated and cheaper postal service, Markovic underlined.
Estimated value of this investment is €40 million, and the Serbian government declared this project strategically important because it will provide full automation of postal mail processing in the territory of entire Serbia.
All three posts will be equipped with modular, flexible and compatible equipment for automated processing and sorting of mail, which will enable their automated processing, fully transform the postal system, but also encourage more balanced regional development.
The facility will be an international, regional and local postal and logistics centre and will shorten the time of shipments, raise the quality of services and significantly improve the working conditions of employees.
