Number of Serbs living abroad goes down

The last census in Serbia showed that apart from decreasing population in Serbia in the last 10 years, the number of Serbs living and working abroad has also reduced, while the accurate data on their number, age and education will be released middle 2012.

The last census in Serbia showed that apart from decreasing population in Serbia in the last 10 years, the number of Serbs living and working abroad has also reduced, while the accurate data on their number, age and education will be released middle 2012.

The 2011 census collectors got information about Serbs living abroad from their family members who stayed in the country, and according to preliminary conclusions their number is around 294,000, while the 2002 census showed that the figure stood at nearly 420,000.

The accurate data will be reached only when censuses are carried out in other countries as well.

The preliminary data of the last census of population, households and flats showed that Serbia today has 377,000 people less than in 2002 i.e. two cities of the size of Nis and Cacak have disappeared, the number of households also dropped, while the number of flats recoded an increase.
