Teresopolis mayor, where 158 persons were killed, stated that some regions look as if they were struck by an earthquake, agency Reuters reports.

The number of victims in the region of Rio de Janeiro rose to 388, and 13 persons were identified so far in Sao Paolo.

According to Brazilian media allegations, situation is the most severe in the city of Teresopolis, in a region north-east from Rio de Janeiro, in which since Tuesday evening 147 persons were killed in floods, 114 of which died in landslides.

Jorge Mario, the mayor of the Teresopolis municipal area, declared emergency in that region and stated this is one of the largest catastrophes ever.

More than 75,000 people are without electricity since Tuesday, when regions around Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo were struck by storms. In this region it has been raining abundantly since January 1.

At least 1,000 people lost their homes and are now placed in local school and religious objects which were not damaged by the flood.
