An Al-Jazeera cameraman was killed near the city of Benghazi, the first journalist victim since the crisis in Libya began, the AP news agency reported.

Al-Jazeera stated Saturday night that Ali Hassan al-Jaber, a Qatari national, was killed in an ambush on the crew near Benghazi, which is the stronghold of the rebels fighting against the supporters of Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi.

An official statement read that an Al-Jazeera reporter was also wounded in the ambush. It is not said who performed the attack.
