Strong earthquake hits Tokyo, no tsunami alert

The quake hit at 4.56 p.m. local time and registered lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the city of Hokota, Ibaraki Prefecture, the Kyodo agency reported.
A strong earthquake, with a preliminary magnitude of 5 hit the Kanto region surrounding Tokyo on Saturday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The quake hit at 4.56 p.m. local time and registered lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the city of Hokota, Ibaraki Prefecture, the Kyodo agency reported.
The Agency stated that the epicenter of the quake was at the depth of about 50 kilometers and that no tsunami warning was issued.
