Chiefs of Staff of the Armies of Serbi and Macedonia, Generals Ljubisa Dikovic and Goranco Koteski respectively, called for a promotion of military cooperation Wednesday, pointing out that it would improve security and stability of the entire region.
Dikovic and Koteski told journalists in Belgrade that the cooperation between the two armies was at a very high level and that there were a lot of possibilities to promote it even further.
The Serbian Armed Forces (VS) chief of general staff said that military cooperation was very important for regional stability, and the VS and the Serbian defense Ministry were committed to its improvement.
Dikovic recalled his recent meeting with his Croatian colleague and announced that he should meet with his Slovenian counterpart soon, noting that the aim of the meetings is to improve bilateral cooperation between armies.
According to Dikovic, a common view is that regional capacities should be put to a joint use and Serbia can offer the regional Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) Defense center based in the city of Krusevac, central Serbia, and the military base Jug (South) near Bujanovac in southern Serbia.
Dikovic pointed to military training and military-medical, and military-economic cooperation as areas for improvement between the VS and the Macedonian Army.
“We understand each other perfectly, and I hope that the cooperation will continue to be at the high level in the future, all with the aim of preserving the security of the region,” said Dikovic.
The Macedonian Army chief of staff said that he and Dikovic had agreed that the cooperation between the two armies was excellent and that it was in the interests of both countries.
He noted that future cooperation would be particularly related to three fields - military education, or exchange of military education staff, the countries' putting their capacities at mutual disposal and exchange of experiences from peacekeeping missions.
