Serbia's Justice Minister Snezana Malovic and President of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Sang-Hyun Song will sign an agreement on Thursday, which will allow those sentenced to jail by the ICC to serve their time in Serbia.
This will make Serbia the first country in the region to sign such an agreement with the ICC, the Justice Ministry stated.
As one of the ICC founders, Serbia has always been supportive of the court, says the announcement.
The new agreement is another confirmation of Serbia's determination to support the ICC, according to the release.
The ICC deals with war crimes committed in any of the 114 countries that have signed the Rome Statute, the ministry said.
Unlike the international criminal tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, which are provisional, the ICC is a permanent institution.
The Serbian parliament adopted the law on cooperation with the ICC back in 2009, which paved the way for further implementation of the court's founding document - the Rome Statute.
