The dinar weakened against the euro by 53 paras Monday, setting the official middle exchange rate at RSD 98.0782, the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) released.

NBS had earlier announced that it would buy a total of EUR 40 million at the interbank foreign exchange market in 20 days, so as to ease excessive daily volatility of the exchange rate. The data on daily purchases are not published.
In 2011, the Serbian currency hit its lowest level against the euro on January 6, when the official middle exchange rate was RSD 106.4947, and its highest on May 23, with the exchange rate at RSD 96.7007.
Since the introduction of the common European currency on January 1, 2002, the dinar slumped to the weakest versus the euro on November 4, 2010, when the official middle exchange rate was RSD 107.5216.
