The bridge near Ada Ciganlija river island, which is one of the latest achievements in the area of bridge construction according to its urbanistic, traffic, ecological and esthetic qualities, will join the shores of the Sava River on Monday.

The erection of the last steel segment of the main spam of the bridge will be attended by Serbian President Boris Tadic and Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas.

First vehicles will pass over the bridge on December 15, when a part of access roads will be finished, the mayor announced, adding that the bridge will be completed during 2013.

The Bridge on Ada will have six lanes, two tube lines, and two bike and pedestrian lanes.

The funds for the bridge construction were raised from the loans granted by the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development with grace period of three to five years and interest rate of two percent, while the other part of the funds came from home sources.

According to Djilas, the cost of the bridge amounts to EUR 120 million not including the access roads.

The world media have presented the bridge as a construction wonder and one of the world's largest one-pylon bridges.

A documentary movie on the Bridge on Ada premiered on the Build It Bigger show of the U.S. Discovery Channel in July 2011.

The one-hour film was taped in Belgrade in December 2010, describing the bridge as the greatest bridge construction project in Europe and the first mega project in Belgrade after the nineties.
