The Peace Implementation Council is set to convene Thursday and Inzko stated earlier that he will make his decision about the referendum at the meeting. The high representative thinks the referendum goes against the Dayton peace agreement, which ended the war in Bosnia.

High Representative for Bosnia-Herzegovina Valentin Inzko has reiterated that he is going to repeal the Republika Srpska (RS) decision to call a referendum unless the RS parliament does so itself.

A referendum is not a problem if the subject is within the jurisdiction of any individual political entity in Bosnia, but the one in RS encroaches on the national jurisdiction, and that cannot be allowed, Inzko told the Radio and Television of RS.

According to him, an official from the EU recently told the RS authorities to repeal the referendum decision or it would be done by the high representative.

There is a possibility of sanctions against RS officials, said Inzko, but added he was still not considering that.

The Peace Implementation Council is set to convene Thursday and Inzko stated earlier that he will make his decision about the referendum at the meeting. The high representative thinks the referendum goes against the Dayton peace agreement, which ended the war in Bosnia.

The RS called the referendum to allow the people to vote on whether they agree with the laws imposed by the high representative, particularly when it comes to the Bosnia-Herzegovina Court and Prosecutor's Office.

The vote is scheduled for early June this year.
