Degert: Positive opinion signal for investors

At a meeting with representatives of business community in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) during which he presented the EC opinion, Degert stated that Serbia should work on increasing competitiveness and maintaining macroeconomic stability in the next period.

Head of the EU delegation in Serbia Vincent Degert believes that the positive opinion of the European Commission (EC) represents an excellent signal for foreign investors to place their funds in Serbia.

Degert underscored that the recommendation for Serbia to be granted EU candidate status is a very positive signal to foreign investors which says that the country is stable and that the risks related to investments are lower. Degert congratulated Serbia on the success it achieved in maintaining macroeconomic stability over the past decade.

At a meeting with representatives of business community in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) during which he presented the EC opinion, Degert stated that Serbia should work on increasing competitiveness and maintaining macroeconomic stability in the next period.

He also underscored that the EU will not renounce its enlargement policy and that Serbia has been given a chance to tackle this priority very promptly and thus obtain the date of accession talks soon.

It is up to Serbia alone to determine the pace at which it would continue its EU path, the EU official stated and added that fulfilment of requests as regards the dialogue with Pristina should not take many years, since these issues could be resolved in several weeks or months.

The meeting with Degert was attended by representative of the Foreign Investors Council, AmCham, Privrednik business club and members of the PKS.
