State Secretary with the Ministry for Kosovo Oliver Ivanovic said Thursday that diplomatic representatives of the European Union and the United States should jointly pressure the government of Hasim Taci so that dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina can resume.
Ivanovic told Radio and Television of Serbia that right now the EU has considerably less influence on the decisions of the authorities in Pristina than the U.S. ambassador, and that the two need to coordinate their actions.
"If this happens, the dialogue is certain to resume," Ivanovic said adding dialogue was always "holding on by a thread," because Pristina tried to politicize every topic and turn it into a direct or indirect recognition of Kosovo.
Mayors from northern Kosovo must be considered legitimate partners in finding solutions, because the implementation of any agreements will primarily concern the residents of northern Kosovo.
Ivanovic said EULEX needs to return to the administrative crossings in the north as soon as possible, and in the meantime KFOR needs to refrain from attempts to violently remove the Serb barricades.
According to him, KFOR and EULEX need to talk with representatives of Serbs in the north of the province and not antagonize them.
