Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic opened the Super Final of the Water Polo World League in Nis yesterday evening. The tournament will last until 18 July. The Prime Minister stated at the opening that it is a great honour for Serbia to host this prestigious sporting event.

He emphasised that the city of Nis will prove to be an excellent host and that players will compete in good spirit.

Water polo is a sport in which Serbia has had many triumphs, highlighted the Prime Minister, inviting the public to welcome each team with a great round of applause.

President of the Serbian Water Polo Federation Velibor Sovrovic wished good luck to all competitors and member of the International Swimming Federation Dimitrios Diathessopoulos welcomed the teams.

Diathessopoulos recalled that Serbia is a country with a tradition of excellence in water polo and thanked the organisers of the tournament.

Serbia has people with a lot of experience in organising such tournaments, he remarked, adding that the people of Nis will have the opportunity to watch some great water polo matches over the next few days.

A parade was held at the opening ceremony by participant teams – Serbia, Australia, Croatia, China, Spain, Montenegro, South Africa and the United States.
