Serbia is heading for elections without illusions on its European Future

Following the compromise sealed in the deal concluded between Belgrade and Pristina in which the status of representation of Kosovo in International relations was settled the countries that objected to the Serbian candidature waved their objections.

The granting of candidate status for membership in Serbia, the issue of accession of Romania and Bulgaria into the Schengen area and the possibility of imposing sanctions on Belarus will be some of the issues discussed during the Summit of EU leaders in Brussels.

On Tuesday, the EU foreign ministers gave a clear recommendation to Member States for granting the status of a candidate country to Serbia. However, the final decision will be taken to the summit because of reservations of Romania and Hungary on minority issues and will be announced Thursday evening.

Romania has indicated that it does not intend to block the opening of the accession process to Serbia.
